Genesis

Wow we finally made it. After months of debating, talking and pontificating we moved east to a nomadic life of travel and adventure (we think).

The last week was a whirlwind to say the least. Kathleen took the helm as chief planning officer while I remained the muscle and chairman of the finance oversight comittee. As in that song: she's got the brains and I got the braun let's make (or rather spend) lots of money.

Planning was a process in logistics as much as it was a test in patience with each other. We began thinking we could go high level - securing flights but maintain a rolling 45 day actual plan. In reality, due to visa concerns we had to commit to a good portion of the trips due to visa requirements in Russia, India and China. Many unforeseen costs later and a cummulative 150+ hrs of research and planning we emerged with a strategy, plan and budget (see detailed itinerary) as well as a deep sense of understanding on how to get on each others' nerves and resolving them quickly.

Next was the physically grueling point of packing. 36+ hrs focused on organizing and coordinating 1450 sqft of our worldly belongings that would find a temporary home thanks to the gracious offer of Kathleen's parents.

I can only be extremely appreciative of our family who helped us move and take care of the many of the details. In usual fashion, I brought Mike aka the Mr Fox (and now his extension Jessica) into the fold as Mr. and Mrs. Problem solver - helping to pack a substantial portion of my geek-ware and other delicates. For those who know me well - among top of mind has always been business and I am blessed with two lattice co-founders that share the same vision, intensity and ability to pick up my slack and provide the means for me to sleep at night knowing well our enterprise will continue to florish and execute to the strategy we set forth.

In the final days leading to our flight, we slept a cummulative 6 hrs (some of which on the floor) and pulled an all nighter as we dined with family and our good friends and close final details. As you can imagine, sentiments of nostalgia and leaving all that was familar and confortable overwhelmed us. It is by this blog / journal / whatever you may call it that we hope to continue that sense of connection to our folks back home.

With white knuckle flight anxiety pills in tow, the flight was a smooth one. Quite fittingly, we were gifted with a spectacular 10k ft bon voyage view of the bay as the fog rolled over and out the hills at 630am pdt (see pictures). It was as much a metaphorical goodbye as my pragmatist / republican mind would have it and shortly thereafter, for the first time in 10 yrs I slept the entire transcontinental journey from SFO to MIA.

It's been a while since I've slept on a plane
