Note: from here on out I'm going to get through these decriptions quickly in order to prioritize pictures. Normandy: the site of one of the decisive victories for the allies. An eventful day via guided tour began on the beaches and bluffs of Normandy where the allies bombed and raided the German entrenchment. It was insane the level of damage repeated bombing could do. Reinforced concrete was blown to bits and its iron reinforcements litterally melted and then quenched into different materials. Crazy what kind of destruction humans are capable of. Next was the museum dedicated by France to the German soldiers. Very kind and thoughtful of them despite being occupied. The next photo is the beach of Normandy itself, where most of the first wave (primarily non-veteran reservists) died as they were encumbered by machine gun fire from the bluffs as well as drowning due to the weight of their equipment. If there is any place more haunted we have been to, it would probably be this one. It's amazing to see vacationers loungng out and having a good time. Finally, the American Cemetary in Normandy. Really well maintained and is US territory owned by American given by the French. The cousin of Theodore Rosevelt, a general, was also burried there. He received the medal of honor becaues as a general, he needed not fight in the trenches along side his soldiers, however, he chose to be the first soldier off the first landing craft. He subsequently died due to wounds from combat. I found that very corageous and an example of true leadership and courage that everyone can be inspired by and to follow in their own lives.
